Setting the tone with textured percussion and an intimate soundscape, Seye Adelekan opens Homerton Ocean View with charming, situational prose as he sings, “We wake, it’s cold outside but warm with you… Why do you wanna go walking in the winter snow? When we’re mesmerized in this moment like an ocean view…”
We immediately connect with the artist’s charismatic timbre, and descriptive brand of songwriting, as he takes us on a journey laced with poetic prowess and intentional depth.
Homerton Ocean View is a vibrant bossa nova number, serving as “an ode to waking up next to your partner on a lazy day”. For reference, Seye Adelekan is the bass player for Gorillaz (who we have featured countless times!), and his solo sound delivers a more organic and intimate approach to song creation, which we are absolutely captivated by!
The opus comes with a super engaging music video, featuring Seye Adelekan in full form, (not animated!), taking us through his reality with floral set design. The visual is captivating and cinematic, and we appreciate the raw authenticity that Seye exudes.
Speaking on the inspiration for Homerton Ocean View, Seye Adelekan confesses, “I moved to Homerton in November just before heading to Iceland where I wrote this song. It was the mixed feelings of being in winter time, feeling the lack of sun but being in love with my partner and still finding that summer feeling in the darkness. The feelings you have for someone can change the weather somehow.”
We love the transportive nature of the piece, and have added Homerton Ocean View to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the star’s growing discography and anticipate future solo and band releases from the star!
