Setting the tone with bold and rolling drums with a dimensional guitar soundscape, Stefan West opens Take What You Need with situational prose as he sings, “Ran away with a rock and roll band, headed up the East coast, head in the sky with a pocket full of change, no understanding of who I was…”
We immediately connect with Stefan’s charismatic delivery and narrative-driven brand of story telling. We appreciate his charm and the timeless energy that he exudes with his eye-opening tale.
Speaking on the message of the release, Stefan confesses, “Take What You Need delves into the experiences of giving oneself entirely to situations, be it in business, romance, or friendships, only to be drained and betrayed when the expectations that have been imposed upon them aren’t met.”
We learn that the song’s emotive lyrics culminate in a soul-searching question, “Can’t you see we’re all the same?”, as the star pleads for “understanding and recognition that beneath it all, we are all striving for freedom and purpose.”
The philosophical nature that Stefan creates with is tangible, and the self-realized adventure that he takes us on feels evocative and simultaneously profound.
With reference to the creative process of Take What You Need, Stefan adds, “This song was actually written whilst working a trade job around three years ago in the beginning of COVID. I remember climbing up and down a ladder to voice note different lines of the verse. I then fleshed the song out further with Aaron Schembri, before going in to record it with Chris at the end of 2021.”
His sonic landscape showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery, and we are in awe of his poetic prowess and the intentional nuance that he creates with. Naturally, we have added Take What You Need to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from Stefan West!
