Having featured Thomas Bernard Howard‘s first three singles, we simply couldn’t wait to hear the follow up in the star’s expansive narrative!
Blood opens with atmospheric, arpeggiated keys, lending themselves to a semblance of classical nuance. The opus expands with dreamy energy and cerebral bassline to unveil Thomas’ luscious and signature vocals.
Thomas tells us that “if Diamond was the beauty queen of my album…then Blood is the Carey.” We love the range that he showcases on the track, and the cinematic nature of the composition, which feels immersive with a touch of subversion.
The darker elements of the star’s vision really come to life on Blood, and we are here for it! The seven-minute composition has a mediative middle section, lending itself to the more delicate stylings of the artist, before returning to the more visceral identity of the overarching piece.
Speaking on the release, Thomas Bernard Howard tells us, “Blood on surface level, is me my venting my experiences with plagiarism over the course of my life. It starts with an analogy about not-so-willingly ‘donating’ blood and how “those who take the most have most to be taken back”. It continues with this symbol of creative blood being stolen from me and then becomes a protest of the crucifixion, the ultimate instance of someone, and a fellow Jew, shedding blood for everyone else’s benefit.”
The rising artist continues with depth, “I have come to resent this idea that I should suffer for anyone else and I am increasingly disgusted by its idolization, especially in this day and age where all people seem to do is take – take my creative work, my confidence, my culture, my country. It’s like I’m not allowed to claim anything. However, that’s not to say this protest is satanic or demonic by any means, although it will definitely be seen as sacrilegious. I personally think the presence of satanism in the music industry is tacky. Rather, I believe the Almighty would understand and appreciate my position. God forbid someone shows a little compassion.”
We deeply appreciate the authenticity that Thomas Bernard Howard creates with, and have added Blood to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate the release of his album in full!
