Our obsession with Clare Easdown grows with every listen, so when we heard that the star had returned with I Break, following the success of her plea for radical change, NOT READY TO DIE which featured Grimes, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Setting the tone with luscious vocal textures and an enigmatic guitar soundscape, Clare Easdown sings the title of the track before sharing the introspective and metaphorical prose, “I break I shake, my soul is shattered at the bottom of a lake, I break, I shake, this depression has infiltrated my brain…”
Something we appreciate deeply about the artistry of Clare Easdown is her willingness to bare her soul and deepest thoughts with us. This is what makes her art relatable and authentic – something that we find utterly mesmerizing.
I Break is no exception to this rule, and we connect with the immersive nature of the composition and the 90s grunge adjacent guitar riffs which create a cohesive tapestry of sound with Clare’s ethereal vocals.
Speaking on the intentional nature of the release, Clare confesses, “[I Break offers] empathy and self-expression to those who have experienced the debilitating nature of depression and mental health disorders of all kinds.”
She continues, “This track gives those who have felt like there is absolutely no light at the end of the tunnel an outlet, to be felt, heard and seen.”
We love the overarching message, and how it fits in seamlessly to Clare’s wider discography and growing body of work. We have added I Break to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Clare Easdown‘s top tracks, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
