Our obsession with Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps seems to grow with every listen. Having featured a slew of his releases this year, we were curious to hear his latest opus, Fire and Ice!
Setting the tone with a timeless, strummed acoustic guitar reminiscent of Deep Blue Something‘s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Fire and Ice opens with conceptual and metaphorical prose.
We are immediately drawn in by the emotive harmonies and Tom’s highly charismatic performance. An astral flute seduces us further with a tambourine adding textures to the expanding soundscape.
Tom confesses that the lyrics recount “a story of brothers playing pirates in their bunkbed, sailing their ship towards an imaginary island with countless treasures to discover.” We appreciate the transportive nature of the prose shared, and the adventure that Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps take us on.
The composition demonstrates nothing short of instrumental mastery, which is something that we have come to expect from Tom as a charting artist and former Sony/BMG songwriter, who is best known for his work with Carmen Gray.
Tom started his solo career in 2020 and has since released two critically acclaimed albums, This Is My Happy Face and Better Man. We love what the star is creating, and how he is establishing his own, uniquely authentic path.
Fire and Ice has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography and anticipate future releases from Tom Tikka & The Missing Hubcaps!
