Setting the tone with a cerebral siren, dynamic guitar riffs and spliced effects, plantoid open Dog’s Life with intrigue, dimensionality,. atmospheric vocals and psychedelic nuance.
The opus expands with conceptual prose to take us on an evocative and thought-provoking journey. Needless to say, we are mesmerized. We appreciate the ebbs and flows, and juxtaposition between the ethereal nature of Chloë Spence‘s vocals, and the more subversive elements of the guitar performances.
We experience an out of this world instrumental solo towards the end with whirring electronica risers that send us astral before a meditative, and “grounded” vocal finale. The band confess that the piece is “inspired by Chloë’s dog Poppy and her hot-and-cold temperament.”
Dog’s Life comes with a surreal (mostly) monochromatic music video by artist digistitcher with flashes of purple, which bring to life the more cosmic and psychedelic elements of the composition perfectly.
We learn that plantoid are a new four-piece band based in Brighton in the United Kingdom. They have just signed with Bella Union, who also represent Beach House, Flaming Lips, Father John Misty, Pom Poko, Spiritualized, Explosions In The Sky, Ezra Furman, and John Grant. Speaking on the partnership the band simply says, “We feel right at home!”.
We have added Dog’s Life to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the rising stars.
