Setting the tone with a hypnotising guitar riff and textured drums, Crux open Empty Home with situational prose as they take us on a thought-provoking and introspective journey.
We appreciate the poetic prowess and raw authenticity that Crux convey as they share their lived experience with us. Speaking on the release, the band from Newcastle upon Tyne confess, “Empty Home was written during lockdown and the lyrics discuss the isolation so many of us felt during that period and how we effectively lost two years, and that that time will never come back.”
They continue with philosophical depth, “Entropy is a key theme to this song, time never stops for anyone and unfortunately nothing lasts. A house is used as an example, and how over time ‘the pipes are beginning to burst’, ‘the water pools and there’s mould growing on the walls’, ‘time has stopped as the structure slowly sinks’.”
The metaphorical nature of the opus is what really shines though, and we appreciate the emotional depth that is conveyed, alongside a cohesive tapestry of sound and instrumental mastery.
We learn that the track was recorded at Blank Studios and produced by Sam Grant from Pigs x7. We connect with the timeless Brit-rock vibes that Crux exude. Their chord progressions are heartfelt with thrashing guitar moments that generate ebbs and flows throughout the composition, keeping our attention.
Naturally, we have added Empty Home to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Crux‘s wider discography including Living in Dystopia, and Bigg Market.
