Setting the tone with an astral synthscape and an atmospheric, introspective dance vocal, Azieb opens When I Called with intrigue and dimensionality. Needless to say, we are in awe.
The opus expands with a fierce and evocative beat and cerebral, dark synth to take us on a dynamic and sometimes experimental journey of self-discovery and self-realization. We appreciate the genre expansive nature of the composition, and both the vocal performance and production are exquisite.
We learn that Azieb uses music to heal herself, and this has a ripple effect into those that are fortunate to experience her sound. There is no doubt that what we are listening to is the tangible authenticity of a connected generation artist. Azieb also tells us that she refused to use auto-tune as she wants listeners to experience the raw and human nature of her delivery.
Speaking on the release of When I Called, Azieb confesses, “This song is about feeling abandoned by someone I thought would help me when I needed it most. Going through that tough situation helped me realize I need to find love [and] healing inside myself instead of outside of myself.”
When I Called demonstrates instrumental mastery and song-writing ingenuity. It is clear that Azieb‘s emotional depth was made to shine, and When I Called feels like a cathartic listening experience filled with nuance and wisdom.
We absolutely love the conscious and intentional nature of what Azieb delivers, and we have added When I Called to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the star’s 2022 single, Glimmer in the Dark.
