We previously featured Atari Pilot for their philosophical and inspiring single, Train Of Life, so when we heard that they had just released 4X / 22, we were curious to say the least!
Drawing us in with a expansive, alternative rock soundscape, Atari Pilot open 4X / 22 with nothing short of instrumental precision and fierce dynamism. Needless to say, we are in awe.
The opus expands with conceptual and metaphorical lyricism as Atari Pilot singer’s Onze shares a charismatic and evocative performance. We learn that the song is designed to encourage listener to “embrace the life in their years and harness the wisdom that comes with age to finally be the hero in their own story.”
We appreciate the psychedelic nature of the sound design, which sends us astral with a message that feels relatable and also quite real, inviting us to embrace our inner youthfulness as they share the hook, “40 something, going on 22, 22… I was so much older then, I never even knew…”
It is said that we spend our youth learning to become an adult, and our adulthood learning to connect with our inner child, and that is exactly the wisdom that Atari Pilot offer with this concept of this composition.
Atari Pilot is made up of Onze on vocals, Paj on bass, Andy on drums, and Frosty on guitar. Speaking on their artistry as a whole, Onze tells us, “With each song we want to try and be like we’re jumping from one stepping stone to another. With [4X / 22], I was looking for something more direct. The song is a call to action to embrace taking that path towards a more fulfilled future and that’s not necessarily going to be easy or straightforward, but you know it feels right and there’s a sense of peace when things are more lined up.”
We love the song and message, and have added 4X / 22 to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Train Of Life, and anticipate future releases from the Atari Pilot!
