Establishing the mood with a dynamic bass performance and rising, psychedelic nuance, Junk Parlor opens Hungry For Love with atmospheric vocals and situational prose as they take us on a journey through the human condition.
Luscious harmonies are fused with a European-inspired, folk-rock adjacent soundscape, featuring an out of this world strings arrangements demonstrating nothing less than instrumental mastery. Needless to say, we are in awe.
We appreciate the relatability of the message, and the drama that ebbs and flows throughout the composition. The violin performance sends us astral, whilst the thought-provoking nature of the chorus hook, along with frontman Jason Vanderford‘s evocative vocal timbre leaves us wanting more.
We learn that Hungry for Love is from Junk Parlor‘s forthcoming LP where they are set to expand their charismatic soundscape featuring Manouche rhythms, Bohemian janglings and exotic vintage belly dance melodies interwoven, with 50s Rock ‘n’ Roll and Punk influences.
It is no surprise that Junk Parlor are selling out shows in the Bay Area, and Jason Vanderford confesses with reference to his narrative-based lyricism, “It doesn’t matter if you’re a jazz musician, singer or dancer – the goal is always telling a great story.”
Junk Parlor have already performed at numerous festivals including Offbeat Festival, Enchanted Forest Festival, How Weird Festival, KineticCarnival, and High Desert Steam Punk Festival, and fans of Devotchka, Tom Waites, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Dead Kennedys, Siouxsie & the Banshees will certainly be able to connect with their sound, although it is clear that Junk Parlor are creating a universe of their own.
