Drawing us in with the sound of rippling water and an elegant guitar soundscape, Galaxy Shores opens Melancholy Daydream with intrigue and atmosphere before textured drums invite us to expand with the artist.
The opus evolves with psychedelic nuance to take us on an immersive journey, demonstrating nothing short of instrumental mastery. Ethereal vocals laced with poetic prowess showcase the more intentional and introspective energy that Galaxy Shores, also known as multi instrumentalist Josh Herren, has to offer, and needless to say, we are mesmerized.
Speaking on his message, Josh confesses, “The lyrics were inspired by a general feeling of going through the motions and being trapped in patterns of life that seem unescapable, delv[ing] into the mind of someone stuck coasting through life out of fear of ending up a failure.”
With reference to his wider creative process, he adds, “I never want to be a carbon copy of any one artist or genre, and although I love psychedelic rock and rock in general. With this song and the upcoming LP, I tried to just shut out all musical noise around me and dive in and try to find my own sound, even if there are influences prevalent in parts of the music. I also always had this vision of the song as an end of summer vibe, with the days still being warm and long but getting shorter, with real life waiting around the corner, and I tried to capture that as best I could.”
The authenticity that Galaxy Shores creates with is tangible, and we appreciate the emotional depth and cohesive tapestry of sound that the rising artist manifests. Josh cites Jimmy Hendrix, The Eagles, Boston, Pink Floyd, Van Halen, Led Zepplin, and The Beatles as some of his influences, as well as EDM outfits including Skrillex, Bassnectar, and Flume, plus bands Tame Impala, MGMT, Mild High Club, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra which we can feel come through in his artistry, although it is clear that Galaxy Shores is creating a universe of his own.
We have added Melancholy Daydream to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whist we continue to stream Galaxy Shores‘s wider discography including his self-titled album!
