Setting the tone with a textured riser and elegant, guitar soundscape, Zarah Westhouse opens Is this a crush? with evocative flow as she delivers the opening prose, “You walk in the room and I can’t stop staring at you, something in your eyes got me fixed on your like glue…”
The opus expands with luscious harmonies and meaningful lyrics into an EDM-hybrid energy as Zarah Westhouse takes us on a relatable journey of connectedness.
We learn that Zarah creates her art, “driven by a desire to spread happiness through her music.” We appreciate the intentional nature of her message, and the charisma that shines through with her cadence and timbre.
Speaking on the release of Is this a crush?, Zarah confesses, “My goal was to create a song that can be played on the beach, danced on in a disco, listened on in radio in a car, played in the cafe – literally everywhere – and acceptend from every age group. It should build a bridge between the generations.”
She adds with a bid to combat division, “Older listeners should not condemn the music younger people listen to – but should get reminded on their own youth. While the song is modern it borrows the positive vibes from previous music eras.”
In a growing sea of music and artworks created by artificial intelligence, the enigmatic nature of Zarah Westhouse raises questions as to her identity, and if she is even a real person at all, but I guess we will wait and see!
In the upcoming months, Zarah is preparing to unveil an EP in different five languages. Once again, this certainly invites us to consider the artist as a talented polyglot or simply a universally generated avatar, being puppeteered by a mysterious creator.
Either way, we appreciate what Zarah Westhouse has to offer, and have added Is this a crush? to our New Music Spotlight playlist whilst we continue to stream her debut and sophomore singles, Memories of Eden, and Ice Day.
