Jeán et Joie share evocative and emotive debut single, Glory Be

Setting the tone with an elegant guitar soundscape, Jeán et Joie open Glory Be with intrigue and metaphorical prose as we experience the lyrics, “And as the crow flies, there’s nowhere that I’d rather be, waiting on you, like we wait for Medusa, while we’re all getting stoned, glory be…”

The opus expands with rippling drums to take us on a trip through the psyche and emotive nature of the rising band, fronted by artist and songwriter, Grey Jeán.

Jeán et Joie describe their sound as “mournful folk with a hopeful glow”, which we are inclined to agree with. We connect with the minimalist approach and poetic prowess demonstrated by the group, laced with tangible emotion that we cannot get enough of!

We learn that Grey Jeán grew in a household surrounded by music, and with their three sisters they shared their talents through “angelic harmonies and polyphonic hymns drawn from the Catholic faith in which they were raised.”

The band has been playing and recording together since Grey and their fiancé Gabrielle Néla teamed up with the drummer, guitar duo Ikaika and Dash from the LA band, Flamango Bay. They have since moved to North Carolina to expand their artistry.

Their upcoming EP, Bramble, is set for release in 2023, and in the meantime, we have added Glory Be to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their sophomore single, Fried Rice.
