Our obsession with Ubiquity Machine seems to grow with every listen, so when we heard that their latest opus, Combustioneer, had just landed, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our thoughts!
Enticing us with textured drums and an astral tone, Combustioneer evolves with luscious guitar and ethereal, layered vocals to take on a somewhat subversive and wholly cerebral trip.
The syncopated nature of the track brings to life the lyrics in a way that amplifies the concept, delivering an almost organic and analogue side-chained effect.
Speaking candidly on the composition, the creators describe Combustioneer as “a languid and sensual sound bath offset by dual-channel vocals that capture the enigmatic passion of an erotic encounter”.
We learn that the “daring abstraction and sensory-rich experience” of the track is designed to embody Edgar Allen Poet’s observation that “Ubiquity Machine is willing to experiment and follow musical paths never walked before.”
The self-referential nature of the piece has cemented our love for the artists, also known as Dan Marsh and Howard Rabach, and allowed us to understand their intention on a more profound level than we could have imagined.
The pair confess their purpose with Ubiquity Machine is focused on “delivering a deeper connection with the audience, [with lyrics] about existing in the world, and provide interesting or insightful takes that encourage the more than casual listener to return to the music.”
We have added Combustioneer to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we watch Ubiquity Machine‘s music videos online, where you can also buy copies of their vinyl!
