Drawing us in with a luscious and enigmatic guitar soundscape with astral bell nuances, Jane Allison opens Frayed with metaphorical constructs as she sings, “The ribbons are frayed and the mess that you made it was bitter and paid for by love, and there’s something unkind in the way that you tried to steal the moon from the stars up above…”
We immediately connect with the poetic prowess and intentional depth that Jane Allison conveys with the song. Her flow is exquisite and laced with charisma. The accompanying soundscape demonstrates nothing short of instrumental mastery, and needless to say, we are in awe. Speaking on the nature of the release, the star from Bath in the United Kingdom confesses, “It’s a call to action for anyone with rebellious streak.”
Jane Allison continues, “I like to think of it as a middle finger to anyone who kept you down and this could be just the song that might pull you back up again.”
She adds with reference to her prose, “As the lyrics sing out ‘But I never vowed to forever take my aim and miss ,And Iʼm not your shame, Iʼm not your pain” it invites us all to grab the torch, hold it up, reimagine it for the dark times we’re all in.”
As an actor, Jane Stanness is best known for her comedic character roles, the most recent being GCHQʼs cryptanalyst Mary in the comedy TV series Intelligence written by Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) and starring alongside David Schwimmer. Her writing partnerships include BAFTA award winning successes such as Nighty Night and Sally4Ever with dark star Julia Davis and the recent quirky mini radio play Greetings with Crispian Mills, in which she also plays many of the characters.
We appreciate the thought-provoking depth that Jane Allison conveys with her message, and the empowering nature of Frayed. We have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Jane’s wider discography including her album, Like Magdalene.
