Drawing us in with a cerebral frequency and breathy vocal ad libs, MAL open Madness As Lift with intrigue, dimensionality and a drum crescendo. The opus expands with a subversive edge, as the stars share evocative prose building into somewhat divergent ebbs and flows. Needless to say, we are mesmerized.
The piece demonstrates instrumental mastery, though an a-traditional and experimental lens, not only fusing genre archetypes, but taking us on an evocative journey through the minds and spirits of the creators.
Speaking on the expanse of their artistry, MAL confess, “We have been around forever and things are really picking up for us.” The rising stars continue with reference to their latest release, “Madness As Lift is a reflection of the world we live in.”
“With all of the darkness and lunacy, life is still what one makes of it. We as artists realize just how fine the line is between dedicating oneself to the fringe ideas of some cult or to the never-ending flow of music in our heads and bandmates. Similarly, we choose to let the madness lift us”, state the band from Van Nuys.
The trio cite Jane’s Addiction, Failure, Pink Floyd, Deftones, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Faith No More, Chemical Brothers, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Hall & Oates, David Bowie, and Nirvana as some of their influences, although there is no doubt that MAL are creating a universe of their own.
We love the optimism, and metaphorical approach that the creators take with their vision, and have added Madness As Lift to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to explore their wider discography, including The Curse, and Come To Light.
