Setting the tone with a textured riser and a cerebral synthscape, The Pulltops open Better Life with intrigue, dimensionality and an immersive, astral melody before inviting us to “Step out of the shadow”, and “slip away through the city streets…”
The opus expands with poetic prowess, intentional depth and a luxurious sense of authenticity that the duo convey with their message and masterful sonic landscape.
Speaking on the theme of the opus, The Pulltops confess, “Better Life takes on the search for happiness in a world that surrounds us with empty promises.”
They continue, “The arrangement echos these feelings by incorporating cold, sterile, yet haunting synths for the verses mixed with loud anthemic drums in the chorus.”
The Pulltops are a Milwaukee-based duo consisting of drummer Mark Pierret and guitarist Tom Crowell, who are both eclectic record collectors, immediately connecting when they joined their first band together.
Mark cites old country and soul music as influences, whilst Tom draws strong influence from the experimental and underground scene. Together what they deliver is unique, manifesting a sonic universe of their own.
We absolutely love the ebbs and flow of the track, and the dynamic nature of what the pair deliver. Naturally, we have added Better Life to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of The Pulltops, including Changes, and Stronger.
