Setting the tone with a glistening soundscape with ethereal ad libs, Jerald Copp and his alter ego Íkorni open ForceGhost with intrigue, and dimensionality.
The opus expands with intentional prose as the mastermind behind the two monikers, Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson, sings, “Someday, you’ll find your own way though the rubble…” with an atmospheric tone, accompanied by intricate and masterful instrumentation.
We immediately connect with the profound nature of the piece, the timeless vibe of the vocal melodies which tap into an emotive power pop energy before a darker twist takes place, taking us into subversive territory and adding a dynamic and cinematic nature to the track. The strings arrangement is exquisite, and the track ebbs and flows between the two soundscapes.
Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson is a music production veteran in Iceland, who is both Jerald Copp and Íkorni. We learn that the big contrast between the verses and the choruses of ForceGhost inspired Stefán to create and market the song as a “collaboration” between these alter-egos. The more melancholy, lyrical, retro vibes of Íkorni is featured in the verses, whilst the the powerful, synthpop epicness of Jerald Copp comes to life in the chorus.
The talented artist cites cinematic music, Bon Iver, Rhye, 80s synth pop, and Emilie Nicolas as references and influences for ForceGhost, but it is also abundantly clear that Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson is creating a sonic universe of his own.
Speaking on the release of ForceGhost, the visionary artist says, “The song is about the feeling when you get when your child is growing up and becoming adult. So you are not really needed as much anymore.” In the choruses with lines “I could be your ForceGhost…”, the singer puts forward some protective ideas on how to be relevant in the child’s life.
The finale of the track feels anthemic and empowering as the star shares his soul and talent with a cohesive and immersive tapestry of sound! We have added the evocative and emotive new single, ForceGhost, to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discographies of both monikers.
