It is no secret that our obsession with Gary Dranow is only growing, so when we heard that the visionary artist had released, The King Is Dead, we were intrigued by the title, and simply had to listen and feed back!
Immersing us with an expressive, out of this world electric guitar performance which reminds us of iconic bands such as Queen, Gary opens The King Is Dead with his signature instrumental mastery, and a soundscape that invites us to connect with his classic rock frequency.
The opus expands as Gary conveys his wisdom and perspective with the prose, “Denying in all your crying, never chase your blues away, and now you’re bleeding, you’re so desperately needing, never convince him to stay…”
We learn that the opus was recorded in one take, which explains why it exudes charisma and authenticity. Gary’s vocal timbre is one of a kind, and we connect with the cerebral and existential nature of the lyricism as well as the playful delivery of his words.
Gary is joined by Paula DeFries on soaring backing vocals, adding dimensionality to the piece, whilst Jerry Manfredi plays bass, Jethtro DeFries slays on drums, and Tommy Mars performs keyboards.
Gary Dranow is a guitar player and athlete from Park City, Utah. He draws inspiration from his life experiences, and his dedication to his craft is a source of inspiration to fans and aspiring artists alike. He confesses how he has poured his heart and soul into creating his autobiographical album, Destiny Road, which was recorded in the ’90s and was released in May 2023!
Naturally, we have added The King Is Dead to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the entirety of Destiny Road, which includes the title track, as well as Something About You, Kisses, and Twisted Minds.
