Over the last few months, we have been intently following the rise of Aza Brown, so when we heard that he had just released Wasting Away, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
Teasing us with panning and compressed drums riffs, evolving into a luscious power pop vibe with expansive harmonies, Aza Brown opens Wasting Away with situational yet metaphorical prose as he sings, “Went for a ride, my head wasn’t holding up so well, considered the lies, especially the ones we tell ourselves…”
We always appreciate the wisdom and lived experience that Aza Brown shares with his lyricism. He showcases a knack for finding just the right words to bring to life his message in both an authentic and relatable manner.
Wasting Away is “a song about certainty”, and we learn that the only thing in Aza’s life that he could be certain about at that time was his unwavering love for his girlfriend. The composition demonstrates instrumental mastery, and we get lost in Aza’s vocal range and dimensionality.
With reference to his timeless sound, Aza cites The Divine Comedy, The Beatles, The Doors, The Stone Roses, The Verve, Frank Zappa, Talk Talk, and David Bowie as influences, which we certainly appreciate and can wholly understand when it comes to Aza’s sound. What we love about it is the progressive mix, which allows the timeless and nostalgic nature to come though but with a contemporary edge.
We have added Wasting Away to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Aza Brown‘s extensive discography, and fans and followers can get a FREE DOWNLOAD of Wasting Away if they follow Aza Brown on social media.
