Drawing us in with a dynamic bass loop and elegant keys, the Nathalie Ballarini Trio open Tuvaou with intrigue and nothing short of instrumental mastery, as they begin to take us on an evocative journey.
The opus expands with an out of this world piano performance from pianist Nathalie Ballarini, whilst she is joined by Luca Scalambrino on drums, and Jean-Christophe Gautier on bass.
We appreciate the dimensional nature of the composition, the deep rooted charisma and authenticity with which the trio perform, and Nathalie’s overwhelming tenacity on the keys.
The piece results in a cohesive tapestry of sound that takes us on a trip of ebbs and flows, showcasing a hybrid of classical, jazz and blues. We learn that Tuvaou is inspired by the concept of rebirth following a tragedy.
The creators cite an array of influences including Gogo Penguin, E-S-T , Radiohead, Pink Floyd , Steve Reich, and Philipp Glass, although there is no doubt that the Nathalie Ballarini Trio are creating a sonic universe of their own.
We have added Tuvaou to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the Nathalie Ballarini Trio‘s wider discography including the entire Pleinair album!
