Setting the tone with rolling drums and an ad lib exclamation of “Oh yeah, it’s time to let it go, come on!”, Rylie Wyane opens his cover of The Race Is On featuring Luke Mills, with a high octane alt-country energy and intricate lyricism.
The opus, originally performed by Sawyer Brown, and before them, George Jones, expands with intentional depth to take us on a vibrant, timeless, and evocative journey. The song itself is about a man who was narrating his failed relationship with a woman who left him to be with someone else.
Speaking on his personal journey within the arts, Rylie Wyane confesses, “My life was turned upside down in 2020 not only by COVID but my wife of 10 years decided she didn’t want a family and was unhappy with the life we had built, she cheated on me.”
Elaborating, Rylie Wyane says, “I tried to reconcile for our son who is now and six only to find that she would soon to return to her way. In November 2022 I filed for divorce.” With reference to the output being his music he adds, “What started at my own personal self therapy has turned into something much cooler.”
The rising artist cites an array of influences including Blink 182, MXPX, Green Day, New Found Glory, Sawyer Brown (of course!), Alan Jackson’s Chattahoochee, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and more, but it is clear that Rylie Wyane is creating a universe of his own.
We love that Rylie Wyane is using the power of music as catharsis within his reality, and that authenticity really comes through in his sound. we have added his cover of The Race Is On to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the star.
