La Biche shares evocative and ethereal new single, Combien

Drawing us in with an astral and mediative vocal texture, and elegant, nuanced synth design, La Biche opens Combien with dramatic flair and an evocative energy as she shares atmospheric vocals and thought provoking lyricism in French, “Combien faut-il que je souffre pour te faire sentir volcan? Combien dois-je perdre de feuilles pour te faire sentir comme le vent?  Combien dois-je flairer d’embuches pour te sentir? Combien dois-je flairer d’embuches pour te sentir, simplement?”

The questions ask, “How much do I have to suffer to make you feel like a volcano? How many leaves do I have to lose to make you feel like the wind? How many pitfalls do I have to sniff out to smell you? How many pitfalls do I have to sniff out just to smell you?”

We appreciate the metaphorical constructs, before the opus expands into a cerebral and experimental tapestry of sound with a luscious and ethereal arrangement, taking us on a trip-hop meets dark-pop hybrid journey.

Fans of Belgian singer-songwriter, Angèle will certainly be able to connect with what La Biche offers, although it is clear that the star is creating a universe of her own with profound and reflective themes.

The music video for Combien sees La Biche deliver an outstanding and emotive performance at the beach, bringing to life the subversive and self-realized nature of the lyricism.

We learn that Combien is “the story of exhaustion, that of trying together no matter what. It’s the story of a story ruined by vertigo. This dizzying sensation of falling when everything ends, of being afraid of the risk that uproots and hits us head-on.”

Born to a pianist, accordionist and music teacher father, La Biche grew up in Burgundy, in Le Creusot, and studied dance at the Ballet Junior de Genève before settling down in Paris.

We appreciate the tangible depth and emotion that La Biche conveys with her artistry, and have added Combien to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her wider discography including Belam, Hard Vison, and Mister.
