Drawing us in with an astral synth and a pulsating beat, KYOTI open Dance Like Everybody’s Watching with atmospheric vocals and the situational prose, “Stop me if you’ve heard it before, do you want to dance some more, I’m sorry if you feel insecure, you’ll forget about it on the floor…”
The opus expands with an intentional, indie-pop meets electronica vibe, as KYOTI encourage us to connect with movement, and ultimately, ourselves.
Speaking on the release, the three-piece band from London confess, “Dance Like Everybody’s Watching is a disco track for introverts. Based on the idea of a couple going dancing who really hate nights out, the song is a celebration of partying without a care in the world. The track is really about the heightened social anxiety people feel after COVID and trying to encourage people out and about again.”
We absolutely love the message that KYOTI are sharing, and their soundscape showcases instrumental mastery as they convey poetic prowess with their inspiring message. Dance Like Everybody’s Watching is a freedom anthem that speaks volumes beyond the dance floor, encouraging us to be the truest and most authentic versions of ourselves.
We learn that KYOTI joined forces with Mercury Nominated Producer Shuta Shinoda to create the track, using tape to records drums, raw vocal takes and even Alexis Taylor’s (Hot Chip) vintage Rhodes piano! The middle eight builds through to an exquisite instrumental segment before and anthemic power pop final reprise, and needless to say we “don’t wanna stop yet” either!
Dance Like Everybody’s Watching has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of KYOTI, including Avalon, and Restart the World.
