We previously featured Martyn Scott for his introspective and metaphorical single, Lazy Days and Lullabies, so when we heard that the star had also released, Bearable Through Love, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
Immersing us with rolling drums and astral melodies, Martyn Scott opens Bearable Through Love with the inspiring lyrics, “Feel it this time, don’t hide, drive on, eyes wide, change it and mean it…”
The opus evolves with and intentional energy, as Martyn Scott shares his perspective and wisdom. We learn that Bearable Through Love is about “giving yourself a good talking to”, and is inspired by cosmologist Carl Sagan who said: “For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.”
Martyn Scott‘s song writing is influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Oasis, The Smiths, The Stone Roses and 90’s Brit Pop, which we can certainly feel come through in his sonic architecture. The instrumental solo showcases mastery, and we appreciate the ebbs and flow of the composition which keep us engaged as Martyn shares his charismatic delivery and intentional depth.
He tells us that he always places “the song” at the heart of it all, stating that “if it doesn’t stand up on its own, sung with just an acoustic guitar, then it’s not worth trying to prop it up through production. It will always fall short.”
We whole heartedly agree with this sentiment and have added Bearable Through Love to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Martyn Scott‘s wider discography including Insignificant, and Moving out!
