Setting the tone with an immersive, melodic soundscape and textured percussion, Lili Joy opens She with atmospheric vocals and an ethereal vibe. We immediately connect with the cosmic nature of what Lili Joy shares; her poetic prowess, dimensional range and charismatic delivery.
The opus expands into a luscious, dream pop energy, and needless to say, we are mesmerized. We learn that She is taken from Lili Joy‘s album of the same name. The rising star confesses, “It is one of my favorite songs on the album because it is an expression of all that I have been through pursuing music as a young person as well as growing up into adulthood.”
Lili continues, “This song was written as a love letter to my past, present and future self. Showing empathy for my past self, giving thanks for my present existence, and holding hope for the future.”
The production of She demonstrates instrumental mastery. The chorus with a dark wave guitar is magnificent, whilst the rippling guitar solo invites us to lose ourselves deeper in Lili’s universe.
Lili Joy is a former member of Team Blake on NBC’s The Voice Season 16, and is supported on the track with drums and additional writing by Aaron Steele (Hayley Williams, Portugal the Man), and production by John Velasquez (Vacations, Zella Day).
We have added She to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Lili Joy‘s wider discography, including Lost in Translation, and Can’t See Far.
