We recently featured Amelie Blake as she took us on a metaphorical and empowering journey with her single, Hunting Games, so when we heard that Amelie had just released the brand new Rules Are Made to Be Broken, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!
Drawing us in with a luscious pop vocal singing the title of the track with an underlying pulsing beat, Amelie shares evocative prose with situational references and an inspiring perspective.
The opus expands with intentional depth and luscious harmonies showcasing production mastery and the intricacy that we yearn for in pop music. Fans of Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish will certainly be able to connect with Amelie’s sound.
Speaking on the release, Amelie confesses, “Rules Are Made to Be Broken explores the push and pull between wanting to conform to the expectations placed upon women, and wanting to reclaim the inner rebel.”
We learn that Rules Are Made to Be Broken was written during lockdown in the United Kingdom, where Amelie hails from. It was conceived when Amelie was considering the meaning of the word “mandatory”. She subsequently came up with the concept, feeling compelled to write an empowerment anthem to break through the layers of expectations placed on women, and explore the authentic self.
We love Amelie Blake‘s message, and have added Rules Are Made to Be Broken to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the rising star’s debut and sophomore singles, Hunting Games, and Let the Words Unfold.
