Drawing us in with a siren and fierce guitar soundscape, MAL open Hero’s Gold with metopahprical prose and charismatic vocals. The opus expands with poetic prowess and an alternative meets progressive rock hybrid energy, as the band take us on an evocative journey with a thought-provoking message.
Speaking on the release, MAL confess, “Hero’s Gold is a song for missing your loved ones and friends while out on adventures to find fortune and treasure and realizing the treasure was always home in the first place.”
The band continue with wisdom, “[It is] about the journey and struggle of providing for one’s family. Literally traveling far away from family and love looking for gold or fortune in order to create a better life for loved ones, but missing out on the real gold which is always home in the first place.”
We learn that the lyrics are written from band member Kristopher Jung‘s first hand experience and that he has gold claims in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range! This certainly explains the authenticity of the song!
MAL features Peter Hollywood on bass ,Kristopher Jung on vocals and guitar, whilst Brendan Reynolds slays on the drums. The band cite Jane’s Addiction, Failure, Pink Floyd, Deftones, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Faith No more, Chemical Brothers, Queens of the Stone Age, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Hall & Oates, David Bowie, and Nirvana as some of their influences, although it is clear that MAL are creating a universe of their own.
We love MAL‘s sound, and have added Hero’s Gold to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the talented group’s wider discography, including Besides, and Come To Light.
