Setting the tone with an astral guitar riff and a dynamic, retro-rock energy, Vargen opens The Bitch In Me with assertive lyricism as he sings “Wish you were deeper, now you couldn’t be much sweeter to me, everything about you, brings out the bitch in me…”
We immediately connect with the sassy and transparent nature of Vargen‘s songwriting, and as soon as we heard that his name translates as “The Wolf” in Swedish, it all started making perfect sense!
Vargen, also known as artist Reine Johansson, delivers poetic prowess, and authenticity with his words, whilst his soundscape showcases instrumental mastery and a sense of timelessness that we cannot get enough of.
The perspective he shares is thought-provoking and laced with wisdom. There is no doubt that fans of Neil Young, Tom Petty, and The Rolling Stones will be able to connect with Vargen, although it is clear that the star is creating an identity of his own.
Speaking on the creating of the track, Vargen confesses, “The music and lyrics came instantly and simultaneously. I had an odd mix of Amy Winehouse, George Harrison and Rihanna’s vocal styles in mind when I wrote it. That hint of sarcasm I think they often have, even in a heartbreak song, I wanted to go for that.”
The Bitch In Me comes with an epic performance video which is actually a live version of the track, taken from a live session pre-listening of some of the album songs. It brings to life the intention of the opus perfectly!
We have added The Bitch In Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Vargen‘s wider discography, including Mindy Morning, and anticipate future English language releases from the visionary creator.
