Setting the tone with cerebral textures and an astral, evocative guitar melody, Sam Stokes opens Met a Man with an acoustic crescendo and observational lyrics as she sings, “Met a man today who fell from grace, and didn’t want to be by himself… Met a man today who walked about and couldn’t keep his right from his wrong…”
The opus expands with meaningful prose, as the rising artist showcases poetic prowess and her perspective on “the story of someone you love deeply who has fallen from grace.”
Sam Stokes continues with reference to her release, “It is to observe their pain and to still see love in them. To cherish them in their moment of suffering. It is a song of compassion.’
We learn that Met a Man is the first single to be released from Sam Stokes‘ debut album Common Ground, due for release in October 2023, described conceptually as “the raw, tender, intimate moment of a soul entering its body.”
The visionary artist has been exploring “her darkest demons and the brightest light within her”, and subsequently decided to record at her home studio. We can expect the album to be self-realized and cathartic, with “the rage of a wildfire burning down whatever is in her way and the peace of a thousand year old monk, smiling as she learns her truth.”
We deeply connect with the narrative and luscious harmonies of Met a Man, and cannot wait to hear what else Sam Stokes has to offer. In the meantime, we have added the composition to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her joint record with Casey Abrams, Conscious Stars!
