As super fans of Love Ghost, once we heard about the release for Veneno, we couldn’t wait to experience the song. Knowing that the title of track means “poison” in Spanish, we knew that we were in for a trip, and needless to say, the band did not disappoint.
Setting the tone with an industrial, electric guitar soundscape, Love Ghost’s Finnegan Bell opens Veneno with the metaphorically apt lyrics, “You keep stinging me again, turned me to a carcass in the end, but that’s quite alright with me, cos the venom you give is like a dream, now we’re both the poison, causing new infections, and if love if the is the antigen, then why does it vanish in the end?”
We are in love with Finnegan’s conceptual nature, and the authenticity of his flow as he speaks so candidly on the subject of toxic love – definitely a recurring theme with the visionary frontperson.
Veneno is a collaboration with Mexican “emo-kawaii” artist Blnko, who delivers a killer Spanish language verse. Both artists exude confidence and charm in their music video performances, bringing to life the narrative of the song with an anthemic finale.
The track showcases instrumental mastery, and we learn that it is produced by Mexico’s SAGA (L-Gante, C-Kan, Malilla), and is designed to incorporate Latin rock and American pop-punk elements. The song is also set to be performed live on June 10th as Blnko and Love Ghost share the stage at Indie Foro Rocks in Mexico City!
Love Ghost’s Finnegan Bell shows no signs of slowing down, and is currently in Mexico writing and recording with many Latin artists, including Dan Garcia, Ritorukai, Go Golden Junk, FLVCKKA, Phyzh Eye, Josue, Young Dupe, Blnko and many others. Producers that Love Ghost are working with in Mexico include Shantra (Santa Fe Klan’s latest album), BrunOG (Latin Grammy nominee) and SAGA. They have several other songs coming this year including Dopeman with Ghana afrobeat artist Camidoh, and You Know Why with Marilyn Manson’s guitar player and producer Tim Skold. They will also be releasing an entire album produced by Mike Summers (Tech N9ne) toward the end of the year!
We love everything that Love Ghost create, and have added the toxically delightful Veneno to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Love Ghost‘s expansive, wider discography!
