We first featured Lazywall for their evocative and intricate debut single, Kan Hez Yaddi, so when we heard that the talented trio had also released, Ghadin Nod, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Immersing us with a dynamic, electric guitar soundscape and pulsating beat, Lazywall opens Ghadin Nod, which means “I Will Rise” in Moroccan Arabic, with a charismatic vocal delivery and thought-provoking, yet empowering message.
The composition evolves with intentional depth, as the band sing about “the years we lost our freedom”, with strong reference to the pandemic. Speaking on the suppressed time of 2020-2021, Lazywall confess “they made us go down deep but we knew that one day, like a Phoenix, we will come back to life. That one day we will rise.”
We love the affirmative message of the song, and the way that the masterful instrumental design echoes the magnetic and uplifting essence that Lazywall represent with Ghadin Nod.
Lazywall was formed in Reading, England by brothers Nao, Youssef and Monz who had relocated from Tangier to go to university in the UK. The trio cite Led Zeppelin, Audioslave and System Of A Down, as well as Bob Dylan and Van Morrison as some of there references, which we can feel come through in their sound, although there is absolutely no doubt that what Lazywall are creating is unique to their own design.
We learn that the brothers set out to “explore drop D tunings and roots music with a mission to connect the oud with the rock guitar, establishing a new musical trade route from the Orient to the Occident.”
Ghadin Nod has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Lazywall‘s powerful debut single, Kan Hez Yaddi!
