As fans of Frank Joshua, we recently learnt that the dedicated and intentional artist was set to release a brand new single this Friday. Naturally, we were curious, and when we found out that had the chance to preview Patent Leather Car, we couldn’t wait to share our thoughts.
Setting the tone with the organic sound of a London taxi engine turning on, followed by an immersive frequency and intricate percussive melodies, Frank Joshua opens Patent Leather Car with a high octane narrative, taking us on a journey with his prose.
We love the vocal echoes and the bright nature of the sound design, creating a cohesive soundscape for Frank’s luxurious vocals. We always appreciate the authenticity that the star shares with vulnerable nuance, unafraid to cry or share his emotions.
The sonic landscape for the opus is metallic with cerebral woodblocks, textured risers, surround sound vocal design and evocative visual imagery as we experience zooming cars energy to bring to life the concept.
Patent Leather Car is Frank Joshua’s twenty-fifth release since just December 2022, and the artist has an archive of songs since 2020. The composition is once again highly unique, cementing Frank’s vocal timbre, but allowing it space to thrive within a highly dimensional soundscape evoking the sentiment of the song in real time.
Frank tells us that it is “a song about fear and love and finding solace in something you know probably isn’t good for you.”
