We recently featured Energy Whores for their thought-provoking, politically inclined opus, Freedom Fadeaway, so when we heard that the talented duo had also released, Den Of Sins, we couldn’t wait to experience it and feed back!
Den Of Sins opens with luscious keys and astral vocal textures, before we experience the metaphorical prose, “Like a stray dog with his tail between his legs, he’s hungry but he’s not about to beg…”
The composition holds an almost 8-bit feel, which we absolutely love, as the duo take us on an evocative and profound journey with their lyricism and cerebral depth.
We learn that Den of Sins is an indie-electronica take on the classic folk song, exploring “a story of a family enjoying a day at the fair”, however, “a parallel plot unfolds in the lyrics as the music stays upbeat, the tale of a lone gunman building up his arsenal to get ready for a mass shooting at the same event.”
The track ends with the haunting lyrics, “It’s much too late to close the iron gate, when all the killers have escaped, you died for someone’s evil thrill...”
We deeply appreciate the message that artists Carrie Schoenfeld and Attilo Valenti convey, and how they use their art as activism. It’s much needed in this day and age.
Speaking on the meaning of Den of Sins, Carrie says with passion, “Gun laws must be changed to protect the innocent from being killed by assault rifles or any other gun that should not be in the hands of mentally disturbed or violent criminals.”
“This song means everything to me and I will not stop writing about it and protesting for better gun laws until children are safe in their schools and all people are safe out in public spaces”, continues the star.
We have added Den of Sins to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Energy Whores, including Dark Money, Psycho Chemistry, and Love Thy Beast.
