With a psychedelic, jazz-funk hybrid energy, Nick Marks opens Dorongo with intrigue, dimensionality and instrumental mastery. The opus expands into a glistening soundscape, which has us feeling meditative and simultaneously inspired.
Rolling drums and melodic protagonists draw us in further as the composition showcases its dynamic nature with cosmic risers, playful nuance and almost cyber, 8-bit instrumental riffs.
We connect with the futuristic nature of the composition, if glitch-jazz was a genre, Nick Marks invented it. The astral nature feels equally cinematic, whilst we are further mesmerized by the high bells and psychedelic vibes.
We experience an orchestral respite with a slowed guitar solo, building us back into a nostalgic and inspiring finale. Speaking on the release of Dorongo, the the creator confesses, “This is a cinematic jazztronica soundtrack to a futuristic aural metropolis set in an augmented reality game”, which feels like a highly succinct way of explaining everything that you just read from us!
We learn that Dorongo was recorded between New York City and Budapest. It also features the talents of New York’s rising stars including horn players Chase Baird (Antonio Sanchez), Andrew Gould (Ron Carter, Mac Miller, 8-Bit Big Band), Jimmy O’Connell (8-Bit Big Band, 88-Keys), Sarpay Özçağatay (Arturo Sandoval), Dave Levy (LCD Sound System, Norah Jones, Ariana Grande), Doron Lev (Evil Giraffes On Mars, Beledo) with a 21-piece string section of the Budapest Art Orchestra (numerous film and TV scores including Carlos Rafael Rivera, Moby, Jóhan Jóhannsson). Of course, Nick Marks composed, arranged, produced the entire track as well as performed all Rhodes, keyboards, synthesizer and synth bass instruments!
We are obsessed, and have added Dorongo to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the Nick Marks‘s debut single, Ride The Dragon, and anticipate future releases from the visionary!
