Setting the tone with an immersive guitar soundscape, Brothers in Vain open Ran Away from Hell with introspective prose, as vocalist Petter Vikström sings, “Is it the way I feel? Is it the way I felt? Only the source can tell… I ran away from hell… I ran away from hell…”
We immediately connect with the poetic prowess and intentional depth that Brothers in Vain share, as well as the vibrant alternative rock energy that Ran Away from Hell expands into.
Speaking on the message of the opus, the band confess, “Ran Away from Hell is about staying strong and overcoming the tough times in your life, because we all have challenges to overcome, some harder than others but we all have them.” They add with confidence, “”It’s the best song we’ve made so far.”
We appreciate the authenticity of the song, and the instrumental mastery that the Swedish band exude with their performances. We learn that Brothers in Vain was formed in Piteå, Sweden in the year of 2018 under their former name Åssit.
Alongside Petter Vikström on vocals, Brothers in Vain features Viktor Öberg on guitar, Joel Fredriksson on bass, and Sebastian Nordaneldh on drums. The band cite Green Day, Rise Against The Machine, Blink-182, and Jimmy Eat World as some of their influences, although it is clear that the talented foursome are creating a universe of their own.
We love their relatable and empowering message, and have added Ran Away from Hell to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Brothers in Vain, including One Desire, and Take My Life Away.
