As huge fans of TerraTara, having previously featured her hypnotizing single, A Love, Tantalize, and the introspective, Empty Apartment, we couldn’t wait to experience her latest offering, Forward.
Drawing us in with a cymbal texture, an astral mandolin melody, and an intimate bassline, with rippling and intricate percussion, TerraTara opens Forward with atmospheric vocals as she sings, “Here we go, here we go, here we go, and there’s no turning backwards, here we go, here we go, here we go, and we’re only moving forward..”
We immediately connect with the charismatic delivery that the star exudes as she shares her expansive energy with us. We appreciate the sentiment of the track, as it echoes the empowering and progressive concepts that TerraTara tends to create with.
The soundscape is naturally aligned to the wider discography of TerraTara, with a reggae-folk feel, instrumental mastery, and a unique warmth that comes from the artist’s soul.
Speaking on the message of the release, TerraTara confesses, “Forward is about moving forward in your life and not looking back! It’s a positive song that everyone can relate to!”
Elaborating on the concept of the opus, TerraTara adds, “Forward was written initially about the exodos of a whole group of my peers from Ontario to British Columbia. We were moving from the urban life and everything that comes with it, back to nature, leaving behind an old way of life, and our friends and families. We had to take the first step and let go of everything we had known. We were moving forward to a new life in a new place.”
We learn that whilst TerraTara performs main vocals, back-up vocals, and guitar, she is joined by Catherine McGrath on mandolin, Jamaine Johnson on bassm, and Neil Symonette on drums and percussion!
We love the authenticity that TerraTara creates with, as well as the overarching sonic architecture of her tracks, and the wider metaphorical message of the song. We have added Forward to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream TerraTara‘s wider discography including Waiting for the Rain, and A Love, Tantalize.
