Setting the tone with an elegant grunge-folk guitar soundscape, Wilhelm opens The Creek with intrigue and a dimensional bassline, before he sings, “There is no way to go back in time, but if I could I’d make you mine…”
We immediately connect with the poetic prowess and romantic, yet often metaphorical depth that Wilhelm conveys, as well as the authenticity in his vocal timbre as he shares the words, “I’d lose it all for a kiss…”. It is clear from his prose that Wilhelm, also known as artist Alex Riggen, is channeling his soul when he writes, and we deeply appreciate this.
Considering the grunge-adjacent sonic design of the opus and the star’s brooding delivery, we can hear every single word with clarity bringing to life an evocative and romantic theme.
Speaking on creative process and intention behind his writing, Wilhelm says, “Lyrics are always up to interpretation. But, the goal of releasing this single of The Creek is to break the three year span of no new Wilhelm releases and give listeners the chance to see what direction the project is headed.”
The mix of The Creek is divine, and the multi-disciplinary artist’s performances demonstrate instrumental mastery; the solos out of this world/. Wilhlem cites Red House Painters, Jason Molina, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Talk Talk, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, and Nick Drake as some of his influences, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own.
We have added Wilhlem‘s comeback single, The Creek, to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the star’s upcoming era, and stream the B-side, You Were There, Sweet and Kind, as well as the acoustic version of The Creek!
