Blue Shirt Charlie is fast becoming one of our favourite bands, having previously featured their debut single where they reflect on real-life tragedies, Shelter and their profound and intricate sophomore single, Crazy Woman. When we heard that they had just released Misty, we couldn’t wait to experience it for ourselves, and share our feelings.
With an intimate acoustic guitar soundscape, Misty opens with the situational lyrics, “I can sleep with my back to the door open for the first time in my life, and in the morning I crack the window and breathe the warm June light, it’s the strangest feeling for me to fall alright, cos I’ve been a prisoner of the night…”
The opus expands with refined electric guitar riffs as Blue Shirt Charlie take us on a meaningful and authentic journey with their prose and intentional depth.
We learn that Misty catches the band at “peak optimism”, telling the story of “two adrift people finding a future together”. The band cite David Gray’s Back in the World, and Radney Foster’s Angry Heart as similar themed songs, which we appreciate, although it is clear that Blue Shirt Charlie are creating unto their own design.
Speaking on the message of the release, the band tell us, “The narrator in Misty has quit – stopped seeking out meaningful connection. The song catches them realizing love is indifferent to whether you think you deserve it. Somebody said the difference between misery and happiness is two things – something to look forward to and someone to share it with. In Misty, we wanted to find what it feels like when those pieces come together.”
They confess that the overarching theme is, “It’s worth getting lost to be found”, and the message that they wish to convey is one of openness and gratitude.
The power pop vocal harmonies are luxurious, and we deeply appreciate what Blue Shirt Charlie share with their artistry and sound, and have added Misty to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Shelter, and Crazy Woman.
