Setting the tone with a dimensional harp, a glistening astral melody and a pulsating 808 heartbeat, mimike opens Abundance with affirmative lyrics as she sings, “Take this fear, of scarcity, out me…”
We immediately connect with the intentional nature of the opus, to indeed manifest abundance, in line with the name of the track. Speaking on the message of the release, mimike (pronounced mee-mee-keh) tells us, “Abundance is about overcoming the fear of scarcity, rejection, or loneliness. As a climate activist, it’s easy to give into this feeling of hopelessness. Abundance is about daring to hope. For me, music is a part of my activism – music is world-building.”
mimike‘s atmospheric vocals are emotive and the charisma and authenticity in her delivery is tangible. We appreciate the bassline, fused with celestial notes to create a cohesive and immersive tapestry of sound.
It is no surprise that Abundance has already been announced as a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. The rising star confesses, “It feels like opening a discussion about the world, about transformation, and hope, and you’re invited!”
With reference to her activism, mimike says, “Music has always been my sanctuary. It is an essential part of social change and transformation – imagining, creating, making and re-making. We aren’t just tearing things down, we’re building something beautiful.”
mimike is the solo project of UK artist and activist Lucy Cadena, who is a classically-trained pianist from Devon, England. We learn that mimike has been composing pieces for piano since a young age, and in 2020, after a number of years playing with various bands in London and her adopted home Budapest, Cadena started to experiment with electronic music production.
