Setting the tone with a meditative synthscape, FLEANGER opens African Dreams with intrigue and powerful vocal add libs, before we are met with rippling percussion and pulsating drums.
We are joined by another vocal sample and fierce kick, creating a dimensional and engaging tapestry of sound which feels expansive, fusing a sense of timeless ancestral energy with a futuristic vibe. Needless to say, we are in awe.
We learn that African Dreams is designed as “a complete journey into the continent of Africa translated into a piece that best describes the artist’s vibe and feeling on the continent.”
The stripped back middle eight features a textured, arpeggiated synth before a luscious strings arrangement envelopes us before an elegant and intricate final reprise.
Speaking on the intention of the opus, FLEANGER says, “The goal is to dive into the melodies and get the atmosphere as if you are in the desert and the wind is caressing your face. And for those who hear the track to feel Africa as the artist experienced it, quiet and sometimes wild. You can feel the atmosphere of calmness and peace that exists on the track.”
The visionary artist continues, “You can see that there are many ways to describe Africa, one of them is the way of calmness. And the peace it inspires.”
FLEANGER was born in Israel and is currently living in Berlin, his stage name stems from a music production effect he favours called “flanger”, which adds depth to certain sounds, with an added letter E for the electronic music he produces.
We have added African Dreams to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream FLEANGER‘s wider discography, including his 2022 EP, Self Awareness.
