We recently featured Your Best Nightmare when she shared her evocative and assertive debut single, Really Cute, so when we heard that the rising star had returned with Ghost Town Love, we couldn’t wait to experience it and feed back.
Drawing us in with textured drums, an astral bell, and a signature, elegant ukulele performance, Your Best Nightmare, also known as artist and multi-instrumentalist Erin Porter, opens Ghost Town Love with the prose, “As the sun sinks down to hell, and as the stars light up your hollow dead eyes, I realise I’d go to hell and back for you, even though we’re probably already there…”
We are immediately engrossed in the escapist narrative, as Your Best Nightmare cements her charisma and unique brand of storytelling. The song is a cute and horror-adjacent love story.
We learn that Ghost Town Love is “the conclusion of the horrifyingly delightful love story”. The star tells us, “The main character has gone as far as she can, and made a ghost town to keep the one she loves alive. It’s an ode to the fantasy of running away with the one you love.”
Your Best Nightmare has an incredible way of bringing to life her universe, with quirky verbiage, moody concepts and cerebral humour. Erin Porter confesses to be deeply inspired by “a whiplash-inducing span of artists and genres”, including Joni Mitchell and the Carpenters, My Chemical Romance, Ludo, Streetlight Manifesto, and Reel Big Fish to name a few.
We love the vibe and authentic energy that Your Best Nightmare creates, and have added Ghost Town Love to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the visionary artist’s debut single, Really Cute!
