Setting the tone with a panning, immersive frequency with celestial nuance, expanding into a luscious, guitar soundscape, The Grand Mals open Urethane with atmospheric vocals and metaphorical prose.
The opus evolves with poetic prowess and depth to take us on a grunge meets psychedelic rock journey, and needless to say, we are in awe. We learn that Urethane is about “a love/hate relationship with skateboarding”. The theme is super relatable and also transpires on a much more philosophical level, which is really what hooked us when we first the song.
The guitar performances, including the solo, are incredible, and the charismatic and emotive vocal delivery is captivating. Urethane is full of memorable hooks, holds a timeless energy with it’s power pop harmonies, and has an almost a futuristic edge with the overarching sonic architecture. We have added Urethane to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from The Grand Mals!
