As huge fans of Luke Frees‘s music, we were excited to hear that he had just released the brand new single, Strings! Opening with a vibrant guitar soundscape and textured drums, Luke sings, “It was what you wanted, not what I need, are we together or not? I’m feeling stuck in between…“
We immediately connect with the vulnerability and authenticity that the artist shares with his prose, and the introspective and relatable journey that the star takes us on as the song evolves.
Speaking on the message of the opus, Luke confesses, “Strings is about those first few moments of clarity you have when you stand up for yourself in an unhealthy relationship, and how uplifting it can feel to take control of your own life again.”
The rising star adds, “Since November, I’ve been releasing a single-a-month, and although this is coming a few months into the project, this was the first song I wrote for it. It was actually the first thing I’d written in a long time. It broke me out of writer’s block, and I think because of that, it has a transparent kind of honesty to it.”
This is definitely conveyed in the tangible emotion that transpired from the song, and the charismatic and empowering delivery that Luke shares. The build of the track is exquisite and it is clear that the song has come directly from source energy. The power pop harmonies are magnetic, and the art-rock energy that the song expands into is simply sublime. The instrumental solos are out of this world, and the performances as masterful.
We learn that the song features Gary Zucker on drums, Niels Sorensen on bass, Garrett Frees on tenor saxophone, Sadie Carpenter on whistles, and it was mastered by Garrett Edson. All other instruments were played by Luke Frees himself – all in all an incredible team, delivering a transcendental sonic experience.
We have added Strings to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Luke Frees‘s wider discography and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist!
