We recently featured the talented Imelda Gabs for her transcendental and immersive single, Reckless, so when we heard that the visionary artist had also released, Thieves, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back.
Establishing the mood with immersive keys, atmospheric vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, Imelda Gabs opens Thieves with cerebral depth and conscious prose as we are once again drawn into her intricate and dimensional universe.
She sings introspectively, “Caught in the middle, we are so little, in a world that isn’t ours to take, maybe it was all a mistake…”, before the opus expands with a progressive R&B energy with nuanced elements of pop and garage, a futuristic vibe, in line with the prophetic artist’s wider discography.
Imelda Gabs‘s flow is evocative, and her vocal harmonies are simply out of this world, also showcasing the artist’s range and charisma. The Belgian and Congolese multi-disciplinary artist, who is based in Switzerland, discusses the collective trauma of our species, and the imposter syndrome that conscious inhabitants of our planet experience as we deplete Earth of its resources.
Naturally, Thieves comes with a surreal music video directed by Dariy Mambetov, filmed in London, which sees the star follow a giant, mysterious orb – almost a continuation of her previous visual. Once she touches the orb, every single person that she comes into contact with the artist possessed by an urge to dance. The tension is heightened, but by the end of the video, we see Imelda and all of her collaborators embrace, showcasing a sense of optimism as she sings, “Through the good and the bad, no there is no turning back, thieves looking for love…”
We love what Imelda Gabs creates, and have added Thieves to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her wider discography, immerse ourselves further in her surreal video hyperreality, and anticipate the release of her debut album, Synopsis, on April 14!
