SickRichard release evocative and dynamic new single, Chickens

Setting the tone with a cymbal riser, a dimensional bassline, and textured percussion before an expansive electric guitar introduction, SickRichard open Chickens with atmospheric vocals and evocative prose as they share the opening line, “If payback’s a bitch, you know it’s true, every last word the said about you… You could make it right with both your wrongs, better off staying clear of everyone…”

The opus expands into a post-punk meets grunge hybrid energy, as the band from London share metaphorical concepts with their unique lyricism. We appreciate the poetic prowess that SickRichard deliver, and the elements of timeless nostalgia in their sound. The varied vocal delivery is iconic, and the track takes us through a series of ebbs and flows lending itself to a dynamic journey for all who are privileged to experience it.

The instrumental mastery is tangible on Chickens, and we love the subversive elements of the middle eight which takes on a transcendental edge with enigmatic guitar nuances before the anthemic final reprise.

We learn that Chickens is SickRichard‘s sophomore single, and will be supported by a release party in London, UK, on March 17th at 93 Feet East in Brick Lane. The outfit is comprised of Sam on vocals and guitars, Ed on bass and keys/synth, and Steve performing drums, percussion and vocals.

The band cite “rock n roll spanning many decades, notably 80s/90s post punk and alternative rock, [as well as] electronic music in various forms including dub, trip-hop, ambient and big beat” as their influences, which we can feel in their genre expansive sound, and it is clear that SickRichard are creating a sonic universe of their own.

We have added Chickens to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream SickRichard‘s debut single, Who Do You Work For, and anticipate future releases from the artists.
