Setting the tone with intricate synth details, a dimensional bassline and atmospheric vocals with luscious harmonies, Savoy Ellis opens the Sped Up version of Don’t Break My Heart / The One with introspective and escapist lyricism.
We immediately appreciate the vocal production and immersive nature of the soundscape, along with the futuristic nature of the Sped Up version, perfect for social media platforms and reaction videos. Speaking on the message of Don’t Break My Heart / The One, the rising producer from Los Angeles confesses, “This song is about love and taking that step beyond fear and taking the risk that, this time, love will come together. A lot of people hold themselves back because they don’t want to get hurt. But sometimes, when the time is right, you have to take that chance.”
We learn that Savoy Ellis is inspired by “60s & 70s soul music, 70s soft rock, gospel, [and] jazz”, which we can feel come through in his vibe, although it is clear that he is creating a universe of his own. He tell us, “Stylistically, I wanted it to be as if Stevie Wonder met Lucky Daye.”
Elaborating on his creative process, the star says, “The album was recorded at home during the pandemic. I produced all the songs and wrote the lyrics for half of the songs. From there I worked remotely with a series of talented musicians and singers.”
Don’t Break My Heart / The One has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the original version of the song, and his entire record, The Love Album!
