Setting the tone with an intricate guitar soundscape, astral frequencies, and intricate percussion, Kahnin opens Go Kart with atmospheric vocals and metaphorical, yet situational prose. We immediately appreciate the artist’s cultural references, and luscious vocal timbre, as he shares evocative words and out-of-the-box concepts. The opus expands with glistening nuances and bold electric guitar to deliver an immersive alternative rock adjacent energy. Needless to say, we are mesmerized.
The release marks the nineteenth single from Icelandic rising artist Kahnin, and we learn that it “draws its inspiration from the cut-up technique famously used by William S. Burroughs.” The lyricism is designed to “celebrate life’s small moments and the importance of maintaining a youthful view on life.”
The star tells us, “Its a message that feels particularly timely and resonant in our current moment. The cut-up technique is always an intriguing way to draft in new ideas that wouldn’t otherwise present themselves logically.”
Go Kart comes with a cinematic, film-noir music video featuring a memorable performance from Kahnin, as he brings to life the message of the song! The electric guitar is played by Leo Abrahams (Miley Cyrus, Talking Heads, A Star is Born, Imogen Heap, Harry Styles), and we understand that “all the unique sounds on the song come from his guitar”. Jimmy Deer and Kahnin produced the song, and Jimmy also plays the guitar and bass as well as the beats on the track along with mixing and mastering it.
We appreciate the depth and authenticity that Kahnin shares with the composition, and the charming message of the song, which has us feeling enlightened and simultaneously energised.
Go Kart has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Kahnin‘s previous eighteen singles, including Highball Chaser, Spider, and Stardust.
