Setting the tone with an arpeggiated rising synth melody, Prima Apollinaare opens High and Love with empowering lyricism as she sings, “You can light me on fire, and push me down, you can call me names but you can’t take my proud, I’ll stand up and patch up and try again, even if I’ll never be the same…”
The opus expands into an assertive and meaningful contemporary pop number with a cinematic edge, as Prima Apollinaare shares her woes and perspective with an evocative message for all who listen. Speaking on the meaning of the song, the star from Los Angeles says, “The song’s lyrics are about getting back up time and time again after being knocked down by life’s trials and tribulations.”
We immediately appreciate the cathartic nature of the piece, laced with poetic prowess as Prima Apollinaare conveys a sentiment rooted in self-realisation and strength. We learn that High and Low is a track taken from Prima Apollinaare‘s EP Alignment, and we are in awe of the music video which sees an incredible performance from the star as she shares her message through a vintage lens.
The record, Alignment, is produced by Eren Cannata, who is known for producing and writing the soundtrack to the film Purple Hearts, which was the most watched movie on Netflix in 2022. Each song is a tribute to a unique and visceral feeling one goes through spanning their lives.
The artist cites Florence and the Machine, Kate Bush, Bjork, and Fiona Apple as some of her inspirations, which we can feel come through with her sound, although it is clear that Prima Apollinaare is creating a universe of her own!
We love the authenticity that Prima Apollinaare, and have added High and Low to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her EP, Alignment and anticipate future releases from the star!
