Setting the tone with an evocative and dimensional soundscape, Tundra Music Collective open Rawk On with subversive lyricism and exquisite flow. We immediately appreciate the poetic prowess of the prose, accompanied by an Afrobeats meets hip-hop hybrid soundscape. The depth is tangible, and the experience and references laced within the lyricism allow us to connect on an authentic with the collective.
We learn that the track features vocals by Karma, Jesse Maxwell, and Waahli, with Frank Bones on drums, Andre “Dede” Desilets on horns, and all other instrumentations by collective founder, Ritchie. The joint is co-produced and mixed by Ritchie & Franky Selector.
The artwork and lyric video are designed by 16pads and do:be respectively, and have a minimalist vibe giving sunset meets dusk energy, which works both in contrast and compliment to the soundscape.
Tundra Music Collective originally started in 2015 and is “rooted in a feeling of not doing enough.” Founder Ritchie confesses, “As one grows older it becomes increasingly harder to stay unconcerned by the social inequities that surround us. A decision was made to act upon this feeling and get involved to raise social awareness on various topics. Tundra is the music vehicle conveying a specific message. Although this theme has been widely explored and might sound cliché, the human experience behind every story is singular and original.”
We love what Tundra Music Collective are creating, and the depth that the share in prose and also vision. We have added Rawk On to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their wider discography, and indeed the entirety of their album of the same title.
